The Story of Pansini Percussion Drums starts in 2010 with Nick Pansini the owner and Builder of Pansini Drums. Nick started as a young man working a trade in custom furniture factory as a carpenter. Over 10 years working his trade Nick spent his spare time repairing drums and playing as a pro drummer.

Following his passion Nick left his carpentry work and started selling drums at Billy Hyde Music. Over the last 20 years Nick has helped all types of drummers develop their sound. With now over 30 years experience as a drummer and 20 years selling drums, Nick has developed the perfect set of skills to produce a wide variety of great sounding drums.

We asked Nick “Why Acrylic?” This is what he had to say:

”I think first and foremost it's important to understand that there are many differences in acrylic materials many different types of acrylic with huge advancements in the technology of modern manufacturing of these products.

“The important thing is to understand with Pansini Percussion shells we use a certain type of a high-end quality acrylic that I believe sets us apart from other manufacturers. The product we use is unique to our brand and has certain acoustic properties that work very well for our drums.

“Basically in the marketplace there are two main forms of acrylic there is cast acrylic and extruded acrylic and there are different levels and qualities of these acrylics from all parts of the world. Just like the many manufacturers of different wood shells they are not all the same, you have your professional and your entry level drums. We’ve spent time testing different materials to determine which produce the best sound.”

“These shells are also UV protected as well which is great for when we use LED lighting system as lesser quality acrylic will discolour overtime and are not UV protected. They are all hand made here in our Sydney factory and are NOT pre manufactured and imported from overseas. The Cast Acrylic sheets that we use offer greater thermal stability and better resistance to crazing and cracking they also have greater resistance when exposed to solvents. The thermoforming range for this far wider. The surface finish, flatness and high optical properties of Cast Acrylic are all superior to those of Extruded Acrylic.”

The Sound

These shells are a high density material and they lend themselves to performing great sonically as they produce a lot of subsonic low end frequencies and a lot of high-end cut and attack they have a very punchy sound and a lot of control and even resonance and with not a lot of overtones due to the density of the acrylic.they are far easier to tune because the thickness of the acrylic is exactly the same from one end to the other and the density is exactly the same throughout the thickness of the shell therefore producing One Note not frequencies fighting each other. it is important to note that we have sold many kits and snares to producers and engineers in studios as we have normal working drummers, temperature changes in the weather do not affect these drums as they would with a wood shell. Most of the major drum manufacturers use lower grade extruded acrylic, the reasons why they do this is to keep the cost down. Using high-quality acrylic is too expensive. Corporations are always looking at the bottom dollar. At the end of the day we are here to offer the drummers of the world something different at a professional level and to push the envelope of manufacturing and technology of modern drums for today.
